Mesotherapy vs Microneedling for Dull, Dry, Tired Skin: Which One Gives the Best Glow?

Your skin is not always “bad.” Sometimes it is just tired.

Your skincare is not doing anything dramatic anymore. Your makeup does not sit as nicely as it used to. Your skin feels dry even when you moisturise. Your face looks a little flat, dull or exhausted, even when you actually slept.

And then the confusion starts.

before and after skin booster

Do you need microneedling? Do you need mesotherapy? Are skin boosters better? What gives the best glow? And why does every treatment suddenly sound like it does the same thing?

At Lana Skyn, we hear this all the time. And honestly, we understand the confusion. Microneedling, mesotherapy and skin boosters can all improve the skin, but they do not work in the same way.

The big difference is this:

Microneedling is more about collagen, texture and skin renewal.Mesotherapy / skin boosters are more about hydration, glow and giving the skin active ingredients from within.

One is not automatically better than the other. The best choice depends on what your skin is missing.

As Lana Zevnik, owner and skin specialist at Lana Skyn, explains:

“At Lana Skyn, I always explain it like this: microneedling wakes up your skin to produce more collagen, while mesotherapy gives your skin the ingredients it is missing. One is not better than the other — it depends on whether your skin needs renewal, hydration or both.”

The short answer: which treatment should you choose?

Choose microneedling if your skin needs help with:

  • texture

  • visible pores

  • acne scars

  • fine lines

  • rough skin

  • collagen production

  • uneven skin structure

Choose mesotherapy / skin boosters if your skin looks or feels:

  • dry

  • dull

  • tired

  • dehydrated

  • crepey

  • glowless

  • flat

  • like makeup does not sit nicely anymore

Choose a combination if you want both:

  • smoother skin texture

  • more collagen

  • better hydration

  • healthier glow

  • long-term skin quality improvement

This is the Lana Skyn way: we do not choose a treatment just because it is trending. We first look at what your skin actually needs.

Does your skin need collagen? Hydration? Repair? Less texture? More glow? That is how we decide between microneedling, mesotherapy or a combination treatment plan.

Why your skin can look tired even when you use good skincare

A lot of clients come to Lana Skyn saying the same things:

“My skin looks tired.” “My makeup does not sit nicely anymore.” “My skin feels dry even when I use skincare.” “I want glow, but I do not know which treatment I need.” “My skin just looks older than I feel.”

This usually happens when the skin needs more than a cream on top. Your skincare can help your skin barrier and daily hydration, but sometimes the skin needs a deeper boost.

Your skin may need:

  • more hydration from within

  • collagen stimulation

  • better texture

  • repair

  • improved elasticity

  • stronger skin quality

  • a fresh glow

That is where treatments like microneedling, mesotherapy and skin boosters can help.

Microneedling is a treatment where tiny controlled microchannels are made in the skin. This stimulates the skin’s natural repair process and supports collagen production.

At Lana Skyn, microneedling can be used as a basic skin renewal treatment, but we also offer more advanced options such as:

Microneedling is especially useful when the skin needs more structure and renewal. It is not only a “glow treatment.” It is more of a collagen and texture treatment.

That means it can be a beautiful choice for clients who struggle with rough skin, visible pores, acne scars, fine lines or uneven skin texture.

The good side? Microneedling can really improve the skin over time.

The less fun side? It usually has more downtime than mesotherapy. Your skin can be red, warm, sensitive and irritated after treatment. For some clients, redness can last a few days, and in some cases the skin can feel sensitive for up to one week.

You also need to be careful with sun, sauna, sport, heat, strong skincare and makeup after the treatment. This is not the treatment you book right before a beach holiday.

What is mesotherapy / skin boosters?

Mesotherapy, also known as skin boosters, is a treatment where active ingredients are placed into the skin with small injections.

At Lana Skyn, we use the MP Gun from Aesthetic Solutions for controlled and precise application. We also work with professional mesotherapy and skin booster options from mesoestetic®, including the mesohyal® range.

Mesotherapy is often the softer, glow-focused choice compared to microneedling. It is especially beautiful when the skin looks dehydrated, dull, crepey, tired or flat.

At Lana Skyn, our mesotherapy / skin booster options include:

  • Mesohyal X-DNA

  • Mesohyal Organic Silicon

  • Mesohyal BT

  • salmon DNA

  • dark circle booster

These treatments are designed for skin quality, hydration, glow, tired-looking skin, fine lines and specific concerns such as the under-eye area.

If microneedling is the treatment that tells your skin to “wake up and repair,” mesotherapy is the treatment that gives your skin a drink, nutrients and support from the inside.

Which one gives the best glow?

Both can give glow, but the glow is different.

Microneedling glow comes from renewal. The skin is stimulated, collagen production is supported, and the texture can slowly become smoother and fresher.

Mesotherapy glow comes more from hydration and active ingredients inside the skin. The skin can look more juicy, fresh, soft and rested, especially when the main problem is dryness or tired-looking skin.

At Lana Skyn, we often explain it like going to the gym.

After one workout, you feel good. You may even see a small difference. But if you want real body results, you need to go more than once.

Skin works the same way.

After one microneedling or mesotherapy treatment, many clients already notice improvement. The skin can look fresher and healthier. But the real transformation comes from consistency.

For microneedling, we usually recommend 3 to 4 treatments, depending on the skin concern. For deeper texture, pores or acne scars, 4 treatments is often better.

For mesotherapy / skin boosters, we usually recommend 5 treatments for the best glow and skin quality result.

Microneedling vs mesotherapy: downtime comparison

This is one of the biggest differences between the two treatments.

If you have work, plans, a holiday or an event coming up, downtime matters.

Question

Microneedling

Mesotherapy / Skin Boosters

Redness

More redness, sometimes up to 1 week

Usually lighter

Small bumps

Skin can look irritated or rough

Small bumps possible for 1 day

Bruising risk

Possible

Minimal, but still possible

Makeup after treatment

Wait longer

Usually possible sooner, around 2–3 days

Sauna, sport and sun

More strict aftercare

Usually possible sooner

Work the next day

Harder to hide

Easier to hide

Best for

Collagen, pores, scars, texture

Hydration, glow, dry and tired skin

If you want something that is easier to hide because you have work the next day, mesotherapy / skin boosters are usually the easier option.

If your skin needs stronger renewal, collagen stimulation, scar improvement or texture improvement, microneedling may still be the better choice — but you need to respect the downtime.

Which treatment is better before a wedding, holiday or big event?

Please do not book one treatment one week before your wedding, holiday or big event and expect a full skin transformation.

We say this with love.

Good skin planning needs time.

For the best result, Lana Skyn recommends starting at least 2 to 3 months before an important event. This gives your skin enough time to respond and gives us enough time to build the result properly.

For a big event, we usually recommend:

  • 3 to 4 microneedling treatments if your skin needs collagen, texture improvement and renewal

  • 5 mesotherapy / skin booster treatments if your skin needs hydration, glow and freshness

  • a combination plan if your skin needs both skin quality and glow

After your package, we often recommend one or two touch-up treatments during winter to maintain your results.

This is especially helpful because treatments like microneedling are often easier to plan in colder months, when you are less exposed to strong sun.

Choose microneedling if your skin feels rough, uneven or textured

Microneedling is usually the better starting point if your skin concern is more about structure.

Choose microneedling if you want to improve:

  • skin texture

  • visible pores

  • acne scars

  • fine lines

  • rough skin

  • collagen loss

  • uneven skin structure

  • dull skin with texture

This treatment is powerful because it stimulates your own skin repair process. But powerful also means you need to take the aftercare seriously.

After microneedling, you should avoid sun exposure, sauna, heavy sport, heat and strong active skincare for the recommended time. Your skin needs time to calm, heal and rebuild.

Choose mesotherapy / skin boosters if your skin feels dry, tired or glowless

Mesotherapy / skin boosters are usually the better starting point if your skin looks tired, dry, dull or dehydrated.

Choose mesotherapy if you recognise yourself in this:

  • your skin looks tired

  • your skin feels dry even with skincare

  • your makeup does not sit nicely

  • your skin looks flat

  • your skin lacks glow

  • your skin looks crepey

  • your face looks older than you feel

  • you want freshness with less downtime

This is often the treatment we recommend when someone says:

“My skin is not terrible, but it just does not look fresh.”

Mesotherapy can be a beautiful option because it focuses on hydration, skin quality and glow from within.

Choose a combination if you want both collagen and glow

Sometimes the best answer is not microneedling or mesotherapy.

Sometimes the best answer is both — but planned properly.

A combination plan can be ideal if you want:

  • smoother texture

  • more glow

  • collagen support

  • hydration

  • better makeup application

  • fresher-looking skin

  • long-term skin quality improvement

For example, if you have acne scars, pores and dull skin, we may start with microneedling to work on texture and collagen. Later, we can add mesotherapy or skin boosters for hydration and glow.

If your skin is mainly tired, dry and crepey, we may start with mesotherapy first.

This is why a consultation is so important. Your skin does not need a trend. It needs the right plan.

Still not sure? Ask yourself this

If your answer is mostly:

“My skin feels rough.”“My pores are visible.”“I have acne scars.”“My texture is uneven.”“I want collagen.”

Then microneedling may be the better choice.

If your answer is mostly:

“My skin looks tired.”“My makeup sits badly.”“My skin feels dry.”“My face looks dull.”“I want glow.”

Then mesotherapy / skin boosters may be the better choice.

If your answer is:

“Honestly, all of the above.”

Then a combination treatment plan is probably the most suitable option.

When should you not do microneedling or mesotherapy?

Not every treatment is suitable for every skin. At Lana Skyn, we always check your skin and health before starting.

Microneedling is usually not recommended if you have:

  • active acne

  • cold sores

  • sunburn

  • recently tanned skin

  • skin infection

  • very sensitive or reactive skin

  • recent Botox or filler within 14 days

  • blood thinners

  • pregnancy or breastfeeding, depending on the treatment plan

Mesotherapy / skin boosters are also not suitable for everyone. We usually avoid treatment with:

  • pregnancy or breastfeeding

  • blood thinners

  • skin infection

  • active inflammation in the treatment area

  • allergies to ingredients

  • recent Botox or filler within 14 days

If we think your skin is not ready, we will always tell you honestly. Sometimes the best treatment is not doing more. Sometimes the best treatment is calming the skin first, repairing the barrier or choosing a gentler plan.

That honesty is part of how we work at Lana Skyn.

FAQ: Mesotherapy vs Microneedling

Is mesotherapy better than microneedling for glow?

Mesotherapy / skin boosters are often better for a hydrated glow, especially when the skin looks dry, dull, tired or dehydrated. Microneedling can also give glow, but it is more focused on collagen, texture and skin renewal.

Is microneedling better than mesotherapy for collagen?

Yes, microneedling is usually more focused on collagen stimulation. It creates controlled microchannels in the skin, which triggers the skin’s natural repair process. Mesotherapy is more focused on placing active ingredients into the skin.

How many microneedling sessions do I need?

At Lana Skyn, we usually recommend 3 to 4 microneedling treatments, depending on the skin concern. For deeper texture, pores or acne scars, 4 treatments is often better. Many clients see improvement after one session, but the best results come with consistency.

How many mesotherapy sessions do I need?

For mesotherapy / skin boosters, Lana Skyn usually recommends 5 treatments for the best result. One treatment can already give a fresher glow, but a full course gives a better and longer-lasting skin quality result.

Which treatment has less downtime?

Mesotherapy / skin boosters usually have less visible downtime than microneedling. Small bumps can be visible for one day, and makeup is usually possible sooner. Microneedling can cause more redness and sensitivity, sometimes up to one week.

Can I go in the sun after microneedling?

No, you need to be careful with sun exposure after microneedling. Your skin is more sensitive and needs time to heal. This is why microneedling is usually not the best treatment right before a sunny holiday.

Can I wear makeup after mesotherapy?

Usually, makeup can be worn sooner after mesotherapy than after microneedling, often after around 2 to 3 days depending on the skin. We always give personal aftercare advice after your treatment.

Which treatment should I do before a wedding or holiday?

Start at least 2 to 3 months before your event. This gives enough time for a proper treatment plan and avoids last-minute irritation. For glow and hydration, mesotherapy can be beautiful. For texture and collagen, microneedling may be better. For full skin improvement, a combination plan can work best.

Is mesotherapy good for tired-looking skin?

Yes, mesotherapy / skin boosters can be a very good option for tired-looking, dry, dull or dehydrated skin. It is especially suitable when the skin looks flat, crepey or glowless, or when makeup does not sit nicely anymore.

Can I combine microneedling and mesotherapy?

Yes, in many cases they can be combined in a treatment plan, but not always on the same day. At Lana Skyn, we decide this based on your skin condition, sensitivity, downtime and goals.

Is microneedling suitable for active acne?

No, microneedling is usually not recommended with active acne because it can irritate the skin and spread inflammation. We usually calm the acne first before starting microneedling.

Is there a discount on skin boosters?

Yes. Until the end of August, Lana Skyn offers €100 off skin boosters. Free consultations and packages are also available.
